The Core Collection has its name because it is firstly, the first collection that we launched, and secondly, consists of basic and classic jewellery pieces, that fit every wardrobe. Such pieces are often called “staples”. The kind of pieces that you ‘should’ own, and can wear dressed up and down, from day to night.
The designs were years in the making. This is true both from a technical. As well as from an personal development point of view.
The Technical Aspect
When I first learned silversmithing, I did this as a creative outlet. I just wanted to learn another skill and create beautiful things. I didn’t dream of making this my purpose and business. Over a few years I developed a skill set and tried different techniques within the trade. It soon became clear that in terms of aesthetic, the irregular, raw and imperfect, were what I was drawn to. I adored working with different texturing techniques and this became somewhat of a signature.
I rarely made anything that didn’t have some intentional ‘imperfection’ about it. Part of it would get little hammered indents, or irregularly shaped carvings; anything to make a piece just a little different. Afterall, I still am a girl that appreciated classic elegance. Therefore my way of adding edge, was literally adding edges in form of texture.
Personal Development Aspect
Everything we do and create is a result of our personal development in the end. Nothing comes from nothing and our pieces too have had a journey.
We feature four textures in the core collection that were chosen both as absolute beauty favourites and for what they represent.
Their representation is one that can be interpreted in each person’s personal context, but simply based on themes that I discovered I shared with many other women I spoke to over the years.
These themes were as follows:
- Rediscovering a ‘wild side’ of my womanhood. An aspect that had been hidden away in an attempt to tame it, and fit into an image that society has created for us over many generations
- A multi-faceted truth of our individual personalities. We can be many things at the same time, and don’t have to limit ourselves to labels and expectations put on us by others or by ourselves.
- The truth that we are organic beings, biologically and spiritually. We are in a constant state of change. Our cells die and regenerate over time and in our emotional lives, things come and go as well.
- Going with the flow, gained a whole new meaning. It no longer meant aimlessly going along with what happened around me. But developing an ability to, with purpose, go through life with a flexibility of mind. A capacity to be able to relearn things I thought I knew, not hold on to supposed truths but open up to many other possibilities. The best metaphor for this is ‘being like water’. Water has a clear destination. It can take many forms and will always find a way to its goal, no matter what obstacles are put in its way.
These themes are present in all pieces of the Core Collection. There is so much more depth to them, than I am giving here, of course. We will go into more depths in blog posts dedicated to these themes. I believe them to be valuable for our awareness, as they can help us navigate our lives and provide tools to cope in times when things get tough.
Our individual humanity contains the entire universe, which is why it has so much beauty to offer in creation. I cannot wait to see what we launch next!
