I know the feeling of excitement and hope that my vote will make a difference. I see the celebrations and voices of hope that say that change will happen now that other people are in power.
I am not particularly hopeful in that regard. I don’t want to sound pessimistic. But I have seen elections come and go in a few countries that I am eligible to vote in and the reality of my experience has been, that the initial excitement and hopes always faded into ‘business as usual’ attitudes. I don’t even mean business as usual in politics, although that too happens a lot of course. I am referring more to what happens inside of us, and as a collective within our communities.
The energies of hope fade. The life force that we are flooded with during these times of hope, fades. Where does it go? Why can’t we hold on to it and harness it to truly be able to be a force for change, as individuals and collectively.
We feel these hopeful energies temporarily and once the elections are over, we give up our power and become complacent and simply expect it all to happen from above.
I don’t mean to say that we should all go out and become political activists. What I mean is that I think we may have the ability to optimise these energies of hope in whatever way that supports our individual talents in this world. We all have something to bring to the table. And if we can harness it, bring it together in a collective, community kind of way, then surely, we can achieve greatness that no seat in parliament can match.
Maybe we just have a way of thinking that ‘things will get better’ through outside forces. When our government changes, ‘things will get better’. When I earn more money ‘things will get better’. When I lose weight ‘things will get better’. But the reality seems to be that when any of these things become reality, we are still not really where we thought we would be. Perhaps we need to learn to ride the waves in times of hope and use these energetic pushes to optimise our own potential.
Writing these words, I am not entirely sure what this looks like. It is a feeling and a sense within me that seems clear and obvious. This inner clarity has not yet made its way into rational mind processes yet. I’ll let you know when they do, and we can activate a revolution that allows us to be the change we want to see!
